A Guide to the Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol which translates literally as the coast of the sun is a region on the south coast of Spain. The Costa del Sol is located in the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia. The area was originally made up of a series small fishing settlements, but during the later half of the 20th century the area has been transformed into a tourism hotspot. The coastline has now been developed into a continuous urban sprawl of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and hotels.
The Costa del Sol region has many popular holiday destination including the city of Malaga and the towns of Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella and Puerto Banús.
The local climate is mild throughout the year which is one major factor in bringing in many new and returning visitors every year.
The area is also home to fifty golf courses and due to the fine weather and luxury lifestyle the area is often referred to as the Costa del Golf.
