Nerja
Nerja is on the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol, located right on the coast just 50 kilometres from the busy city of Malaga.
This historical fishing village is home to beautiful sandy beaches and clear blue waters, on which all major water sports are available. The majority of the village has been left untouched by the tourist boom in the Costa del Sol, and many narrow streets and whitewashed houses are still seen as a cultural diamond in this area of Spain.
The quaint seaside town has the beautiful outlook on a breathtaking mountain range and has the incredible Balcon de Europa, ‘Balcony of Europe’ which holds spectacular panoramic views from the edge of a cliff onto the sensational Mediterranean Sea. There is a wide range of ravishing coves and caverns to see from the cliff and to explore down below. The caves include fascinating archaeological treasures including paintings over 20,000 years old and are a must-see for tourists in this area.
The village has plenty of restaurants and cafes. The famous Nerja cuisine includes specialities such as De La Doncella (red mullet). Nerja is also known for its romance and special horse-drawn carriages which are available to visitors.
Although the village itself is quiet compared too many other areas of the Costa del Sol, such as Marbella and Malaga, it is just a short half an hours drive away from the busy hustle of city life.
