Malaga Beaches
Malaga on the Costa del Sol coast has many popular beaches. Famous for being long and wide recent regeneration work has ensured that the beaches are kept clean and have good facilities. Many of the beaches in the area have been awarded blue flags by the European Union indicating high quality.
La Malagueta
La Malagueta is probably Malaga’s most famous beach stretching over 2 kilometers long and 45m wide. Much of the beach’s sand was imported from the Sahara desert to improve the quality of the beach for tourists. The sea is war
m and clear making it a great beach for swimming. Being close to the city there are ample facilities including showers and a wide variety of bars, cafes and restaurants. The central location means that the beach is within walking distance of many hotels and holiday villas but car parking is also available for those staying on the outskirts of Malaga. The beach is popular with both tourists and locals and is busy throughout the year, particularly in the summer when the beach clubs come to life.
Playa del Chanquete
Playa del Chanquete is a smaller beach located to the east of Malaga. The beach is named after the tiny fish that used to be the daily catch for fishermen in the area. The sea can sometimes be a little choppy but is safe for strong swimmers. The beach is a great spot for picnics and is surrounded by restaurants offering a wide selection of fresh seafood.
Playas de las Acacias
Playas de las Acacias is a popular beach for young people soaking up the sun and browsing the various establishments on the local promenade which hosts a number of seafront shops, stalls, cafes and restaurants. The beach is part of the Pedregalejo neighbourhood which are separated into peaceful coves formed by enormous breakwaters made out rocks that cut out the waves.
Other popular beaches in the Malaga region include Playas de la Misericordia, Playa Palo, Playa Huellín and Playa Las Acacias.
