Benahavi is a picturesque mountain pueblo in one of the richest municipalities in the Andulucian region of Spain. Rapid urbanisation and growth in the tourism industry has made Benahavis one of the most sought after property investment destinations in the Costa del Sol region. Located 7km inland between Marbella, Ronda, and Estepona, Benahavis is also known for its stunning mountain and ocean vistas. Thanks to its fast growing economy and rapid commercialization of, Benahavis and the surround area now has 12 out of the 70 golf courses in the Costa del Sol region. With more courses set to be built within the next year or so, this hilly and gorgeous settlement, really is the perfect destination for golf lovers.

Having a reputation for being the hilliest village on the west side of the Costa del Sol, the village lies on Serrania de Ronda Mountains’ south side. The three big rivers, Guadalmina, Guadaiza, and Guadalmanza meander through the town giving its land fertility and immense natural wealth. Perhaps due to the abundant availability of fresh produce, Benahavis is also popularly known as the ‘Dining room of the Costa del Sol.”

Benahavis Attractions           

Fortunately for all history and nature buffs, Benahavis is like a breath of fresh air. With architecture influences ranging from Moorish to Catholic eras, visitors will also find ornamental detailing in many of the old heritage structures and mansions in this affluent region.

La Aldea – This is a village within the Benahavis village. It is the brainchild of David Marshall, an English Sculptor, who also owns a gallery within the La Aldea.

La Zagaleta – This is an old mansion turned into an exclusive club and has the who’s who of the town and its members. With cliquishness written all over it, La Zagaleta is a symbol of the growing rich breed in the village.

Montemayor Castle – A fine example of Moorish heritage, this castle dates back to 11th Century. Today, its ruins are testaments of the bygone era when Moors ruled Spain.

 

Benahavis Beaches

Due to its inland location, Benahavis has no beaches. However there are plenty of beaches just a short drive from the village.

 

Benahavis Shopping

While you can get almost everything you need in the village itself, the shopping malls, boutique shops, and supermarkets are located on the coast, near the N340. Some of the popular supermarkets towards Estepona are Supersol, Mercadona, Carrefour, and La Colonia Shopping Centre.

For exclusive designer items, head to Puerto Banus and El Corte Ingles, the largest Spanish mega store. Marbella’s La Canada is the biggest mall in the region and is home to a wide range of shops.

 

Benahavis Restaurants

Synonymous with good and fresh food, Benahavis has the highest number of high class restaurants in the Costa del Sol region that serve international as well as local cuisine. Several thousands of visitors come to the pueblo to savour the world-famous cuisine. If you aren’t one for heavy meals, visit the several bars that serve tapas.
It’s also worth trying out the inexpensive but delightful Spanish wines that will help to make your meals even more enjoyable!

 

Benahavis Nightlife

Quite a low key affair, nightlife in the Benahavis can be spent ambling along winding, meandering streets and enjoying drinks and refreshments at many of the peppered bars and roadside cafes. For an unstoppable nightlife, visit the coast and let your hair down!
