Juan Antonio Roca Claims Unfair Dismissal
Juan Antonio Roca Claims Unfair Dismissal, Drags Marbella Town Hall into Court
Arrested in March 2006 for real estate corruption in Spain, Juan Antonia Roca has claimed unfair dismissal from his post of Municipal Real Estate Assessor according to Marbella prosecutors and news agencies. Roca is the eye of the storm in the Malaya corruption case and has been charged embezzlement of public funds worth 36 million Euros.
Apart from the Malaya corruption case, Roca is also facing several other charges and his assets worth € 2.5 billion or $3.4 billion have been seized by Spanish police. According to a 451-page indictment in July 2007, Marbella prosecutor Miguel Angel Torres has mentioned that Roca also owned a private jet, a ranch for raising bulls for fighting, a helicopter, villas and apartments in Spain, and an invaluable painting by Joan Miro. Some of the present charges on Roca are based on various real estate irregularities noticed in the Marbella real estate market as well as other markets within Spain. As a result, he is being slammed with charges for money laundering worth € 12 million.
The Social court in Malaga will be hearing Roca’s case on December 15, 2009 and the judges have asked all those involved in the case if they wish to have an out of court settlement. Marbella Town Hall legal representatives have tried to reach an agreement with Roca using the CMAC arbitration service on a previous occasion without any success.
Roca feels that since his employment was suspended during his period in prison, it is unfair. He wants his job back and also compensation for the same.
