Costa del Sol home owners hoping for an amnesty
Silver lining for 'illgeal' Costa del Sol properties?
Investors affected by the crackdown on illegal property on the Costa del Sol, that was built without the correct planning permission, are hoping that a planned amnesty might spell a better future.
Corrupt officials allegedly gave the ‘go ahead’ for a number of developments to be built across the Costa del Sol region. As the properties were not built legally investors have been worried that their properties would have to be demolished. In the Malaga region alone it is believed that a staggering number of up to 40,000 properties are affected.
But now property owners are hopeful that Marbella will be the first to declare an amnesty on about 20,000 illegally built properties. The president of Malaga’s Provincial Council: Salvador Pendón is expected to make an announcement soon owing to the fact that many such properties are not built on protected land. Where property has been built on such land it will still face being demolished.
Antonio Sánchez who is the mayor of Mijas, apparently also announced that owners who fail to implement demolition orders will no longer be fined by the town hall. An eighteen month ‘stop gap’ will allow the ‘town plan’ to cover many of the properties that currently fall into the illegal category.
